About this test

The NarcoCheck^® IDetect^® Benzodiazepines is a test for the detection of a wide range of benzodiazepines in powders, solids, liquids or on surfaces.

Benzodiazepines are a class of psychotropic drugs mainly used for their anxiolytic, sedative and hypnotic properties. However, they are also subject to misuse and abuse.

In recent years, we have seen the emergence of modified or unknown benzodiazepines, circulating on the dark web and mass-produced in Asia. Their low cost makes them attractive to many traffickers, who do not hesitate to use them as cutting agents or to sell them as new synthetic drugs. Yet these substances present a major danger: they have often not been the subject of toxicological studies, and some have never been used in medicine due to their dangerousness or deleterious side effects. Their use can therefore have unpredictable, even serious, health consequences.

This test is a risk-reduction tool which detects benzodiazepines (alprazolam, clonazepam, diazepam, etc.) in different ways:

To detect the presence of benzodiazepines in powders, crystals, tablets, liquids etc...
Simply take a few milligrams of the substance to be tested. The test then explicitly defines whether the sample contains any benzodiazepines, with a positive or negative result.
To detect invisible traces of benzodiazepines on surfaces and all types of objects.
The sterile swab supplied in the kit is used to collect residual microscopic particles present on any object, utensil or support that has been used to handle benzodiazepines. The test then enables them to be clearly identified by a positive or negative result.

Please note

This test does not determine the proportion of benzodiazepines in the sample analyzed.
Based on an immunological reaction, it detects the tiniest traces of benzodiazepines. It will therefore be equally positive for a sample consisting entirely of benzodiazepines, and a sample partially composed of benzodiazepines (or cut/contaminated with benzodiazepines).

Why do drug dealers cut certain drugs with benzodiazepines?

The main reasons are as follows:

To make a drug “stronger” or more addictive: The hypnotic and sedative effects of benzodiazepines can increase psychological and physical dependence.
To counteract certain side effects: In the case of stimulants, benzodiazepines can alleviate anxiety or insomnia.
Relatively low cost of cutting: Some benzodiazepines, particularly synthetic forms sold in bulk on the Internet, can be inexpensive, making them an inexpensive cutting product.

What are the risks associated with the presence of benzodiazepines in other drugs?

The risks are many and must be taken very seriously.

Intoxication / Poisoning: Cutting benzodiazepines often come from uncontrolled sources and clandestine laboratories where production is of very poor quality, exposing additional risks of serious intoxication or contamination by other substances.
Overdose: The combination of benzodiazepines with other depressants (opioids, alcohol) greatly multiplies the risk of respiratory depression and overdose.
Underestimation of effects: Users are sometimes unaware of the presence of benzodiazepines, leading to unintentional intake of antidepressants; alertness and judgment can then be impaired without the person being aware of it.
Increased dependence: Benzodiazepines rapidly build up tolerance and can worsen overall dependence when used with other drugs.

Limits of use of the ID-Tests^® and IDetect^®

This test is a professional device used to help identify presumptive drugs or narcotics in the form of powders (fine or agglomerated), crystals, tablets, or some specific plants. It is not designed to test "anything and everything" (food, beverages, biological materials etc.), and particularly everyday products (household, gardening, cosmetics etc.) which contain various chemical compounds that can trigger unexpected reactions, and thus cause false or erroneous results.

Confirmation of a positive or negative result

Like any rapid test, this test delivers a purely indicative result. To know or confirm with certainty the composition of the sample, it is necessary to analyze it with a reference analytical method such as GC/MS or HPLC-MS/MS. The use of this test must therefore be done with full knowledge of the fact that no rapid screening test can be 100% reliable.
