About this test
The NarcoCheck® DXM rapid test strip is an immunoassay for fast the detection of Dextromethorphan use in human urine.
This test for Dextromethorphan comes in the form of a simple urine strip.
Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant found in various cough syrups and lozenges.
In general medicine, dextromethorphan relieves dry coughs by blocking the cough reflex in the brain. It is sold over the counter, often combined with sugary excipients, and used for short periods of time.
Misuse: in high doses, some teenagers and young adults misuse DXM for its psychotropic potential. Taken in large quantities, it causes feelings of dissociation, hallucinations, and euphoria. Recreational use, known as “robo-tripping,” is growing via the internet and at concerts.
Overdoses can cause agitation, nausea, heart problems and, when combined with alcohol or certain antidepressants, a potentially serious serotonin syndrome.
